My friend immigrated to this country for I Like Beer And Rugby And Maybe 3 People Vintage Shirt his Masters, worked at top tech companies, quit his job, went to a top Business School (where I met him) started a company (which I am helping with), and is currently talking to VCs. Who knows what will happen, it could eventually fail. But he has the potential to make it big - despite not growing up here, despite not being politically connected, despite not having English as his first language, despite not paying a single bribe, despite the fact that he's not the same race as the people he's selling to. Going back to Hawaii this summer and I can't wait. I feel like all the colors there are brighter and more saturated than normal. I mean all of them. The grass is greener, the water is bluer, it's almost unsettling at first. Then I come back to Georgia and I'm almost disappointed. At least until I get back under the live Oaks. As a Brit, you guys are really friendly. We're cynical about happy service but pretty much everywhere I've been in the US has had amazing service. And a smile on the street doesn't mean you're crazy. You fast food is also sooo much better. No idea why. I've eaten in high end restaurants in a couple of locations - don't mean to suggest that the US doesn't do posh food. I just think your cheap food tastes better. The American dream is alive. My wife and I talked to a shop owner in San Francisco who was a Republican. While we disagreed with his politics, it was wonderful to talk to someone.
